Illinois Terminal 518 Progress

Thanks to IRM member Pete Pedersen, we have some photos of the ongoing painting of one side of Illinois Terminal coach trailer #518. As many of you know, the 518 spent many years as a "one sided car" as the side typically away from public view was in primer. That has now changed. As Randy pointed out earlier, the IT meet is coming up at the end of the month, and work is ongoing at a feverish pace to get everything ready.

Thanks, David. You're 50 percent there.

(On getting pictures to expand.)

Art,

That's an improvment. Most people that know me well say I'm only 25% to 30% there.

IT 518 looks great, even with the primer - looking forward to seeing, photographing, and riding it with a complete coat of orange on both sides
at the end of the month.

Is the IT event open to regular Members?

Any word on what is happening on CA&E 451? Seems like all that activity for a few months, then silence..

You guys are doing amazing work...

The Museum will be open to the public, of course, although some of the rides and other activities may be limited to Society members. But we can always use more help from IRM members on various tasks to keep things running -- that's what I'm planning to do. Bob Heinlein is in charge, so talk to him.

And 451 is still waiting its turn. I'll try to have an update sometime soon.

Bob H. is the person getting volunteers together for the IT meet. I believe there are still jobs open for car hosts on the orange train. We would like to have people to ride in the train, especially the 234, to stay with passengers while the train crew is busy. We also need flagmen for the grade crossings for the night trips. Of course, if you come out that day, I'm sure there will be jobs that we don't know about yet too.

As to the CA&E 451, Jon Fenlaciki soldiers on. He took on the task of stripping all the metal window frames, which are brass. That includes cleaning down to nice gold metal, buffing with Tripoli, and applying a protective coat to keep them from tarnishing. He was there Wednesday this past week, and a few more were completed.

Thanks, Bob, I should have mentioned that. Refinishing all the windows on any car is a huge task.
