Calling all collectors! IRM is looking for WABCO M15 brake handles, of the type shown above, so that we have a spare or two in case we need one. These are typically solid cast iron, and you'll note that the D-shaped hole for the stem is at a 90-degree angle compared with the more common M22/M23 handle. If you're interested in trading, selling, or donating an M15 handle, please drop us a line!
What kind of car would these go to?
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking! For us, these are used on the CA&E wood cars 36, 308, and 309. There were other interurban cars that used this particular type of brake valve, but nothing that operates here.
ReplyDeleteThis is technically called an M-12 handle. In this application, it's being used on M-15B brake valves.

A further thought...this design of handle was also used in Philadelphia, on an ME-series (air with electric assist) valve of some sort. The examples I've seen were brass with a wooden handle, and could be tightened on the stem, like the private-purchase brake handles that were popular among CSL streetcar men.
