I'm now on vacation for the next two weeks or so, so I'm counting on the capable hands of Frank and David to keep things going. I may have occasional access to the blog, but no pictures until we get back. We're probably going to be going south and then along the Blue Ridge Parkway, then back through Pennsylvania.
But I already have a little news. Concerning the Rt. 66 Diner in Gardner, we found that the old Riviera supper club has burned to the ground, and the diner has evidently been moved. A local store owner told us they were planning to install it in the center of Gardner next to the historic jail, but I couldn't locate it. If anyone has further information, please send it in!
And we briefly visited Monticello. They were in the process of switching what was nearly a mile-long string of freight cars, and I mean that literally. This is just part of the several miles of freight cars they store for private owners during off seasons on the part of their line that isn't used for passenger trips, and this brings in a good income. Motive power was an IC SD-40 and a CN FA, so that part of it was quite unusual.
See you later!
