Proper training to promote and ensure the safe operation the historic equipment at IRM is an essential facet of the organization. Recently, Al and I received training from Henry Vincent one of the trainers in the electric car department. I have been rules qualified for several years now, but had never taken the "leap" to actually learn to operate some of the equipment.
Today, Henry worked with the two of us on the various facets of operating Chicago Transit Authority streetcar #3142. This car is a K-Controller straight air car that many begin their operating careers on at IRM. Today was Al's first day of training, while I was receiving my final line training and check ride to become qualified on the car. As always, Henry did an excellent job of explaining everything, answering questions, and promoting the safe and careful operation of IRM equipment. At the end of the day Rod performed a check ride with me, and signed my rule book and the associated paperwork. Al will continue with more line training on subsequent days in order to become qualified.
Like any Wednesday, there was lots of work going on around IRM. Nick was busy helping set up tents around the site, and Rod and other Car Department volunteers assisted in the unloading of a little blue tank engine. Work was progressing on the TCRT PCC car, as well as various projects in the wood shop.

Al will be a fantastic Thomas announcer. I am extremely appreciative for his help with all 5 days. What a good sport! --gwyn!
