While looking in the 1754 the other day, Tim showed me a pile of old CRT car cards left there by Ray Neuhaus. They're mostly in pretty bad shape, but are still interesting, I think. Tim hopes to get them scanned in and reprinted at some point. It's been a while since we've had any new car card posts, so here's one from Pigley and Ulcers, another Chicago restaurant chain that's long gone. Mmmm!

ReplyDeleteNow there is a fundraiser idea... If the Tavern lounge section could pass health dept. regulations, I could see the Electroliner serving Electroburgers (Cooked on that marvelous futuristic tech called an inductive range) during this years Trolley fest....Yum!!!!

Unfortunately, both the inductive range and the Motor-Alternator set which powered it were removed by Red Arrow while the train was out east. I believe the museum has most of the components to re-assemble the MA set under the train, but we have not been able to locate the proper grill. We are keeping are eyes open though and would welcome any tips.
ReplyDeleteWas the M-A set straight from 600V traction power for the input voltage, or did it have dropping resistors or lights in series with it?
ReplyDeleteI would have to look at the print again, but I believe the M-A set operated on a nominal 600, with various current limiting resistors in the control circuit. The output was 120 / 208 AC, 3 phase.
ReplyDeleteJoe, maybe check with restaurant equipment suppliers who cater to mobile kitchens such as food trucks or yachts?
