This will be brief: yesterday I was running the 3142 all day. I was too busy to take any interesting pictures.
But the weather was nice. I even got to be the dispatcher most of the day, and managed not to get anybody too mad at me, I think. Beyond that there's not a lot to say. Thanks to all those who help make IRM operations a success on a regular basis!
How do you dispatch and run all at the same time? Doesn't your mind turn to mush after awhile doing that?

No. First of all, it wasn't that complicated. We had two mainline trains, running on an hourly schedule, so I didn't even have to arrange any meets, for the most part. The streetcar makes regular stops with some dwell time, and I could issue orders while we were boarding or discharging passengers. The streetcar runs itself from a dispatching point of view. If a call comes through while the car's in motion, and it's something complicated, I come to a stop. And then I can explain to the passengers what I was doing, and they don't seem to mind.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I wouldn't want to do it every day. I'll leave that to the professionals.
