IRM is an educational organization, and our members are always glad to share their expertise with others. Often, this is knowledge you can't get anywhere else!
Samuel D. Polonetzky, P.E., B.Sc.
(Northland College, 1970) on Wednesday, July 25th 2018, will be
making a presentation before the Underwater Archaeological Society of
Chicago, of which he
is a member. The topic will
be “Crossing of the Chicago
River by the State Street Subway.” During the
presentation, he will show the actual motion pictures of the construction of the
Subway in 1938-40.
Mr.
Polonetzky is a Civil Engineer who served the City of Chicago, Department of
Streets & Sanitation for thirty five years, rising from Engineer-In-Training
to Acting Chief Engineer. During this tenure he acquired
a deep knowledge of Chicago’s public
rights-of-way and the underground infrastructure. He is also an active member of
the Illinois Railway Museum at Union, Ill., (nee the Illinois Electric Railway
Museum at North
Chicago, Ill.) and a Life Member of the American Public Works
Association.
The
Underwater Archaeological Society of Chicago meets in the Chicago Maritime
Museum located in the Bridgeport Arts Center, 3400 S. Racine Av. Chicago Ill.
60609. The business meeting starts at 7:oo p.m. which will include reports on
some of the society’s projects in
progress. Mr. Polonetzky’s presentation will start at approximately 8:oo
p.m. All are welcome.

Sorry, the City of Chicago still maintains a valid copyright on the films. With out the films the talk would not be very much. I do have some permissions to use the films but under no way can I post them.
