All Aboard for Day Out With Thomas™!
Thomas the Tank Engine™ is going to be at IRM in only a few days, on July 14-15 and 21-22! Make sure to get your tickets now, as many trains have already sold out and seats are going quickly. There's a lot more happening too, including our newly-repainted Rock Island GP7R locomotive, which is being unveiled this Saturday. There are also exciting upcoming events that you won't want to miss.

    Day Out With Thomas™ in 2018

    Thomas the Tank Engine and all of his friends are returning to IRM this July 14-15 and 21-22! Ride with Thomas and Percy, meet Sir Topham Hatt, see magic shows and story readings, and create unforgettable memories.     Rock Island 4506 restored

    The IRM Diesel Department has done it again! Restoration work on Rock Island GP7R 4506, built in 1952 by EMD, is complete including a fresh paint job in 1975-era "The Rock" blue and white. The locomotive will be officially unveiled this Saturday, July 7th, so don't miss this chance to see and ride behind the museum's newest restoration. Click here for details.

    Our Christmas train may seem far off given the hot weather but tickets for Happy Holiday Railway have just gone on sale! If you buy during July you can save $3 per ticket. Create a new family tradition this year and join us for an enchanting train ride with Santa.

    Work on Shay 5 accelerates

    The volunteers in the Steam Department are working hard on getting our Shay, J Neils Lumber Company 5, operating this summer. In between maintenance and operations work on Frisco 1630 they have nearly finished reassembling the Shay and are getting it ready for some final boiler tests before it can go into service. Make sure you watch our website and Facebook page for updates on when the Shay may be running for the first time this millennium!

    Vintage Transport Extravaganza

    Our 28th Annual Vintage Transport Extravaganza, a celebration of all things wheeled, is coming up on August 5th. This is one of the largest antique vehicle shows in the Midwest and we are accepting vehicle registrations now. You can even buy your ticket in advance to skip the line!

    Steam Benefit Breaks Record

    A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the 8th Annual Steam Department Benefit Concert at the Sanfilippo Estate in June! We broke our previous attendance record for the event and raised a lot of money to support restoration activity in the Steam Shop. Your support has been instrumental in all of the progress made in the Steam Shop in recent years and we thank everyone who came.

    Diesel Days on August 11-12

    Diesel Days is one of our most popular events and this year it is back in August on the 11th and 12th. Highlights for this year will include our Santa Fe FP45, recently made operational, and Rock Island GP7R 4506 which has just been restored and repainted. Mark your calendars!

    Museum Entrance Building

    Fundraising has kicked off to build the new Museum Entrance Building. This exciting project will provide not only a permanent public entrance, but indoor exhibit areas, a theater, event space, and an entire block of historic building fronts on our Main Street Scene.
