More Streetcar Magic

That didn't take long!  It seems like our Toronto streetcar arrived only yesterday, and yet it's now operational.  Don't believe me?  Cliff McKay sends us a couple of nighttime photos plus an astounding video of the car in action. Of course, it can't go very far due to the difference in gauge, so we'll have to set up a transfer point.  Tickets will be going on sale soon....

  1. Was that move done with a stinger or does the car have battery backup like the new Milwaukee cars do?

  2. Is this the first time a piece of equipment has operated under power at IRM on non-standard-gauge track?

  3. It was hooked up to a stinger. You can see it hanging on the trolley bus wires to the left, at the start of the video.

  5. I believe the answer to Frank's question must be yes, mainly because we've had so little odd gauge trackage or equipment over the years. We can probably list it all:
    1) 2' gauge for the tunnel equipment. I'd be surprised if any of those wheels will even turn.
    2) 3' gauge for a couple of rusted-out locomotives.
    3) Pennsylvania trolley gauge for the trucks from the PST 68, perhaps. That certainly never went anywhere.
I can't think of anything else, can you?

  6. Folks,
I think it was very smart to get a pair of extra trucks; it is going to be a lot easier to to re-gauge the LRV trucks without a body on top of it!

  7. Thanks, Ted. We are very lucky to have people in charge who are smart enough to foresee problems like that.
