Friday at the Car Shop

Another brief report this week, as I was busy again with canvas on the 453.  But I hope you won't mind.

First, a quick look at what else was happening.  Tim continues work on the ticket booth; here's the new door getting its finish treatment.

And Buzz continues working on windows for the Mt. Harvard:

And they were probably doing many other things while I wasn't looking.

I finished tacking down the canvas around the west end of the car.

Smoothing out the canvas around the compound curves is not easy.  It's all been tacked down, and I started ironing it out.  The discolored parts are where the canvas was thoroughly wetted before the hot iron was applied.  It's never going to be perfect, but once it's been painted it will look pretty much like all similar roofs.

It will need some more irony, but that's always in good supply here at Hicks Car Works.

And for the next step, I've ordered new wood for the running boards, it's arrived at the lumber yard, and will be delivered next week.  So we'll try to keep the project moving along as efficiently as we can.

  1. so Randall, given the height above the track, is that what's meant by high iron? :)

  2. Tim's work is just absolutely amazing, both in quality and sheer output.
