Sunday Sunset Lines

Sunday was another great day for operations at IRM, especially on the Sunset Lines.  The 1630 coach train, the Diesel caboose train, and the Zephyr were all operating, as well as an assortment of electric cars: CA&E 409-431 and 309-319, a three-car North Shore train, and several streetcars.  There was a good crowd of visitors all day and into the night, with the last train departing at 9PM.  I was too busy to get many pictures.  But as always happens on special days like this, there were lots of photographers all over the property and out at Seemann Rd., so I'm sure there will be loads of great images showing up in various places.   Feel free to send some in to us.

Frank, Fred Zimmerman, and I were the crew on the wood car train.  We took turns operating, and Fred got qualified on the wood cars. 



I'm not qualified on night photography, so I'm hoping for some better submissions.



And Frank brought along his portable Victrola, so we could have some period music.


A great time was had by all!  And of course the festivities will continue on Monday.

I took no photos at all until after the train was put away, and by that time there wasn't much left to photograph. But I did run into Doodlebug Bob in the car shop, and he was able to show off the jig he's been working on for some months:

The plate on top moves over the piece being machined in an arc machined to a .001 tolerance, riding over those arched metal pieces on rollers, and will be controlled with an acme thread that will be held by that piece towards the lower right. This will allow us to machine the arch-topped journal wedges used by North Shore cars. These are prone to wearing out and trouble can then ensue.
