Another Rainy Event

Saturday was IRM's celebration of the 100th anniversary of EMD, in partnership with Progress Rail, and once again there was rain for most of the day.  But the festivities went on anyway and most people seemed to take it all in stride.  And we have pictures, including several sent in by Buzz Morisette.

SIDE NOTE: We've had some questions about why this event wasn't publicized in advance. The reason is that it was a private event that was coordinated by Progress Rail, and wasn't an event put on by IRM as a public gathering.

Diesels were on display all over the property.  I believe this is the latest product of Progress Rail, on loan for the event.  But anything I tell you about internal combustion is liable to be wrong, so be warned.

And here behind it we see C&NW 1518, the first GP7:

The 1630 was pulling the coach train:

And we had a three-car wood L train in operation:

And one lonely electric car:

And the Zephyr was running.  I didn't get a picture of the train, but of course we've seen it many times before.   But we went for a nice relaxing ride in first-class comfort.

Later, it was good to get out of the rain by visiting the model railroad department.

The Shay was also in steam yesterday:

And later in the day, it was used for switching out in the south yards, some rare mileage!

Finally, our Track Department was at work in Yard 4 east, fixing some of the track for the upcoming Barn 4 improvement project.   The storage cars east of the barn, which haven't moved for more than thirty years, need to come out.  And the inevitable lack of maintenance on storage tracks meant that some work was needed.   Thanks to these guys seen here, that work was getting done.

Thanks!!!
