Labor Day Weekend Report

For various reasons, pictures from last weekend will not be up to our usual standards, but sometimes things just go haywire.  We were planning to run the 36 and 319 four days in a row, but the operation on Saturday evening essentially got rained out.  That's about the third time this year.

On Saturday, both the Shay and the Decapod were in operation.  The rain can't hurt them.

I don't know about you, but I never run my model trains in the rain:

In the evening, I operated the 409 instead, but didn't get any pictures.  Jeff Smith was the trainman.  And when a trolley rope broke, the "third shift" crew came to the rescue.   Thanks, guys!

Sunday went well, with Andy Sunderland as the motorman, but I took a day off.

For Monday, on the other hand, we have better results.  Greg Ceurvorst was the motorman.

On the mainline, we had the Zephyr, the 1630 on the coach train, the Shay on the caboose train, and us.  Something for everybody!

We even got in some rare mileage on Station 2:

We had a good crowd of visitors, and I was too busy most of the time to take pictures.

And then, on Tuesday, we had a special train for private car owners visiting IRM.  There were lots of photographers around, so I imagine pictures of this event will appear elsewhere on the net.

Ron Seavers was the motorman this time.

Unfortunately, my pictures of the private train were all greatly overexposed and unrestorable, except for these two.  But a good time was had by all, and the special guests all seemed to be very impressed with our Museum, and enjoyed their ride on the interurban.

In conclusion, as usual you just had to be there.

  1. Randall,
I seems you were not alone in the rain; everywhere from mississippi to New England had a sloppy Labor day Weekend. As usual, it is great to see the C, A & E Interurbans out and around! So many thanks for all you do for us out of State members!
