While the rest of the Museum is busy with Happy Holiday Railway, main-line rail replacement, and other essential improvements, we week-day Car Shop guys are still moving along on various restoration projects as time permits.
Tim continues to make a complete set of new windows for the 1808. Here we see him getting some much-needed supervision from Mike Stauber.
And glass is being carefully installed in some of the windows.
Meanwhile, Fritz continues on the new North Shore doors that are being fabricated.
It was colder than predicted on Friday, so I didn't do any painting on the car. But two 16' boards were brought in to make the first two trolley boards for the 460. They are cut to length, the lap joints are made on the big bandsaw, and two crosswise holes are drilled for attaching a grab iron. Boards this long require a lot of care in order to avoid knocking things over. Three Stooges, anyone?
And then a first coat of primer:
And Gregg came in to paint the next set of siding pieces for the 1702.
Outside, the new line pole is now set in concrete:
And I went over to Barn 8 to check on a couple of things. Surprise! We have a new restoration project going on there: the 65, which is now on 83. Jon Fenlaciki and Mike Stauber were working on wiring inside the toilet compartment. It's too small to get a clear picture of anything, but here's the interior of the main compartment.
They were using a torch to heat up the connector, then rush inside to finish soldering it onto the cable. Teamwork is essential.
And finally, I must say the 1702 is really looking good.
