It's not easy to track all the progress that is being made in various places at IRM. The people over at the Model Railroad building, for instance, and all those working in Barns 10 and 11 and in other places, will have to toot their own horns. But I have two of my own, so to speak, which I will be glad to show you.
First, though, it was warm enough up on the roof to finish installing and painting the remaining saddles on the 460 as seen here, looking west. The two trolley boards in the center are not yet fastened down, so they may not be quite in line. Next time I can start by attaching the final two trolley boards.
And then I installed the horn at the #1 end of the car. Fritz helped by pushing the piping up from below with a stick so the casting could be threaded onto the pipe.
And then I spent some time getting the remaining roof cables in the #1 attic up through the canvas so the wiring can be completed once the trolley boards are in place.
Pete and Fritz were working on doors for the 757 as before, including many of the little details. I took only this one shot of the inside of the motorman's door. But these will really look nice.
In a change of pace, Tim was mostly working on getting 50th Avenue station ready for North Shore Day.
And that includes heating the building with the original stove. Here he is checking that the damper actually works. That's important.
And finally, we have some exciting track progress to see out in Yard 12, which will eventually turn into Barn 12. The contractors are working steadily to finish this project. It's always good to see new tracks being laid so more of our collection can go inside.
And I should point out that progress like this is made possible by generous donations from people like you!
I'm excited even more with every post for January 21st. It's the little things that will make things a most memorable event. I vaguely remember 1993 and the winter ops that year. Hoping mother nature cooperates and that stove won't have to work too hard.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned! A lot of work is going into the planning and preparation for this event. Of course we can't affect the weather, but everything else that's within human control is being done by many of the Car Dept. regulars to make it a success. We'll see you there!
