We are sad to report the death on Saturday of longtime IRM volunteer Darryl Van Nort. Darryl was a volunteer in the Steam Department in the 1970s and 1980s. In recent years, he was more commonly seen operating diesels at the museum, especially during special events such as Diesel Days. He was also an avid model railroader and a major presence at the Elmhurst Model Railroad Club. A retired engineer for IBM, Darryl was an electronics expert and an unfailingly friendly and knowledgeable resource for many in the hobby. He died of complications from COVID following a brief illness. His kindness, sense of humor, and expertise will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
