More Diners

Friends have been sending in more pictures of old diners, which I'll have to add to the list when I get a chance.  In the meantime, Ron sends us this photo of an abandoned diner near LA:

And Tim sends us some of a diner in Auburn, NY:

 So thanks for sharing!

  1. The diner "near LA" (more specifically, Buellton, CA) consisted of two Los Angeles Railways "class B" Huntington standard cars, 644 (St Louis 1911) and 848 (American 1912). In 2013, the diner was razed and both car bodies were moved to the Bitter Creek Western in Arroyo Grande, CA, which is a 7.5" gauge live steam operation. They're still there, on display next to the picnic area.

  4. I have eaten in the Cutchogue Diner, way out on the north fork of Long Island; it think it is still in operation. Years ago I got food poisoning at the Roslyn Diner, I hope that one is out of business!

I think there is one or more web sites about chrome diners on YouTube for those who might want to know more.

There are even some that have been turned back into rail cars; my favorite is the V&T #22 McKeen Car that the Nevada State Railroad Museum has restored to operation Wow!

Ted Miles, who likes a good hamburger

  5. Food poisoning is no fun, and I'm sure we're all glad that Ted survived his visit to the Roslyn Diner.

There is no guarantee, express or implied, that any of the diners pictured on Hicks Car Works actually serve edible food. You have been warned.
