Weekend Update

I was out of town this past weekend, but many thanks to new volunteer Steven, who sent along several photos of progress made over the weekend.

First, some photos of a switch move to extract Charles City Western 300. It's unusual to see this much of Track 71 empty - the 'Liner must be out!
And here it is, with its headlight illuminating the CTA 2400s.
The Army 45-tonner was used to reach past the west end of the wire on this track.

Next up, some photos of work being done to rehabilitate Type M contactors for our Illinois Terminal Class B.

Doodlebug Bob is heading up the diagnostic and machining work on this project - and quite a project it is, with as many contactors as the Class B has!
Next up, Steven, Joel, Brian, and Jimmy removed the faulty MG set from CTA 41, one of our "single car" spam cans.

That's Joel under the car, disconnecting the MG set.
Now that the wires have been removed, the assembly can be dropped out the bottom of the box.
With the car pulled up to the Central Avenue crossing, Brian runs the forklift while Joel directs.
And voila, the MG set is absent.
Finally, a photo and some video at this link of steam (and some electric!) operations over the weekend for our Steam Into Fall event. Many thanks to Steven for sending along this update!

  1. Thanks for publishing these Frank! Was quite a productive weekend. Any idea when you will be out next to work on the 18?
