IT Antimacassars

My daughter Esther has finished making 30 new antimacassars for the IT 277, as seen here, plus a couple of spares. These will be installed in the car for the IT meet next April. Now all I need to do is to get them silk-screened. This may not be cheap; the first quote I got was about $200 for the set. I'll keep shopping around.

More info about this project was posted here and here.

  1. Randall,
    happy Thanksgiving!

I have a question about the C,A &E cars; how many of them can be operated in a train? I assume the wood cars have to go with other wood cars and steel one with other steel cars?

Will there be enough DC currant to operate a three or four car train?

  2. Yes, we should have enough current to operate a four car train of either wood or steel cars, although this would only be for special occasions. Of course, first we have to fix up the fourth car of each type!

  3. We have operated a 5 car North Shore train at IRM in 2005, and I believe they operated either a 5 or 6 car 4000 L train for an ARM convention years ago. A 4 car steel train will likely operate this year. It would be neat if we could get the 321 and the 36 running to run a 5 car wood train.

  6. Is there any dedicated fund for the IT passenger cars that one could contribute to?

  7. I'm glad you asked that question! I think we generally don't have restricted funds for groups of cars because it would get too confusing, but there are certainly funds for each of the IT cars currently considered for restoration. I would say the main project for the near future that will need money will be the 277, and any contributions will be most welcome. And of course, at some point in the near future the 415 will need major rebuilding again.
