Pensacola Streetcar

Over the past couple of weeks we were on vacation along the Florida Gulf Coast, which is why nothing has been posted here.  Not a lot of railfanning got done, but here is one thing of interest.  And I plan to get back to work on Saturday.

The Historic Pensacola Village is a collection of old buildings in the city's center, most of which have been restored and are open to visitors, a Museum of Commerce and a Museum of Industry, an art museum, and so on.  It was well worth a visit.  In the Museum of Commerce is the body of the only surviving Pensacola car.  It's a 1922 single-truck Birney built by American.

The truck and all of the electrical and brake equipment are missing, but the interior has been nicely restored to the extent possible.

The Museum of Commerce is housed in an old warehouse.  It reminded me of the street scene at MSI, but is somewhat larger.

Anyway, we had a great time on vacation.  I'm thinking of buying a vacation homesite in Florida.   It has definite possibilities.

  1. Are you going to become a swamp person?

May be a good location for an auxiliary IRM site.

  2. For years, I've felt (and it's been proven by repeated management turnover) that East Troy would be a perfect satellite operation for IRM. That way it could finally get the proper care it needs.
