The first project today was something different: starting on a seat frame for the Shaker Heights car 18. One small stationary seat was missing when we got the car, but other frames can be used as a pattern. The missing piece was presumably similar to the one seen here, only narrower.
After some work with the big bandsaw, the jointer, the table saw, and the shaper, we have all of the wooden parts needed to make another frame. The rest of the woodwork I can finish at home.
It may not be obvious in the picture below, but the seat has a piece of sheet metal attached to the frame, over which the rattan is placed. I'll leave it to Frank to come up with the metal.
Now back to the lobster trap on the 714. With some adjustments, the final slat on the #2 end was installed. It's now much more evenly spaced than before.
Another detail is to install the rope guard. This one seems to have come from a different car, so it needs some minor body and fender work, as well as being stripped and repainted.
Meanwhile, Tim continued refinishing doors and windows for his current project, the 1808.
By the time I had to leave, several other people had started to arrive, so this is just a small part of today's activities at IRM.
