We've received an unexpected, but very welcome, update from our Signal Department. Many thanks to our distinguished Signal Department Bureau Chief, Bill Wulfert, who sends along photos of work that Bob Olson, Dave Diamond, and Tom Opolony performed Saturday despite the particularly frigid temperature.
It may not be immediately obvious what's going on, but the Signal Department has evacuated the south end of the office building. This is the oldest IRM-built structure on the property. For a time in the 1970s it was the only heated structure at the museum and served as the restoration shop for both departments, steam and electric car. For a couple of decades it has been the Signal Department's shop, but it is now being repurposed again: this end of the building will be improved and will serve as additional office space. Included in the work will be a raised concrete floor to bring the floor level up to that of the office in the north end of the building.

Hi Frank,
Minus the diesels are there any electric MOW cars that could be used to clear snow from the ROW? I know M15 has a plow on one end and their is the plow behind the electric car shop which I believe is for B48.
I just can remember if there are other cars that could currently run and clear snow.
Hi Logan, no, not really. The M15 is about it. That big plow was fitted to the D13 when it was in East Troy but we don’t have any plans to re-fit it. One of our goals is to resume restoration work on the B48, so we’d have a working snow sweeper, but that will be entirely dependent on volunteer availability and interest.
Don’t I remember a couple of CSL snow fighters that are in better condition than the B48?

Yes, I'm sure you remember the E223 and F305. The problem there, I believe, is that they are both in good cosmetic condition and make nice display pieces, and more importantly, they have CSL's mini-flanges and are liable to derail. There may be other reasons, so additions and corrections are welcome.
