Amid the cold and snow of winter, Gregg sends us another illustrated update on the UP doodlebug:
Work lately has been around the heater room on M-35. The stove and the insulated walls need to be done before the ceiling panel is reapplied. Here is the stove before work started:
The walls are lined with a heat proof board, replacing the asbestos panels removed years ago. A double metal panel will go over this.
And the upper part of the stove. This area is the size of a phone booth, thus it's hard to get pictures!

A close up of the plates on the heater. Long before Detroit was the motor city, it was famous for railcar heating systems, evidently.
The lower portion of the Peter Smith hot water heater being primed. The box is the coal bunker.
I might point out that Peter Smith heaters like this were by far the most common equipment for electric cars with hot-water heat, such as our IT cars, the Michigan Elecric 28, and many others. -- RH
