Black and White and Red All Over

Today was a holiday, so I was able to do more on the 319. First, I finished tracing all the lettering in the main compartment. Here's a sample tracing made to Hicks Car Works standards. I also took pictures of all the lettering, such as this one.

If you're a CA&E modeler, and your models do not yet have the correct interior lettering, this should help you fix such a glaring defect.

But seriously, folks, then it was time for more sanding, cleaning, filling, and painting. It's going along pretty well, as seen here.

By the way, notice that this one light fixture is unlike all the others: it's round instead of square. Just another oddball detail.

The cover of the thermostat seems to have been severely pounded with a hammer for some unknown reason. I have no intention of operating the electric heaters, so it doesn't really matter, but I removed the cover and took it home for body and fender work. If I can't straighten it out, I have a spare from the 318.

On the other side of the compartment, the thermometer is in good condition. The numbers are barely visible, but it more or less reads the correct temperature.

In other news, I met a new member, Frank Kehoe, who is seen here helping Tim Peters install ventilators on the roof of the 1797. Tim is out of sight behind him. Progress on the car is going well.

Meanwhile, out in the yard, the GN hopper car seen last time has gotten a coat of primer put on by the contractor, one "Dr. Paint", and here Bob Kutella is supervising the touch up process.

By the end of the day, Dr. Paint had started to turn the car red. Pretty soon it will more red than the newspaper! Sorry, that's what happens when I get too near to Bob K.....

Finally, there isn't a lot of fall color around the campus, yet, but here are a couple of trees over near the Steam Dept. picnic ground. It looks like many of them may fall before they turn.
