IT 1702 Update and More

Many thanks to Gregg Wolfersheim, who sends along this update of progress on IT line car 1702:

More parts being fabricated and then primed for the line car. The long pieces are the half covers that were pretty well shot in our last installment.

The small half cover in paint to the left. The panel in primer goes on top of the small group switch to protect it from moisture and dirt.

The small cover received a fiberglass layer to replace the asbestos. Then a coat of Glyptal was applied.

The two small covers all done.

And, the top piece in paint.

And as a bonus, Gregg also sent an update on Union Pacific doodlebug M35!

It's been a long time since I've had enough time for the doodlebug. However, one baggage rack was stripped and painted. Here it is installed in the smoking compartment.

And, the second rack is now up!

Work continues in the Women's toilet with paint and varnish removal.

Super excited to see some progress on the M35, I've definitely grown to like the doodlebug after spending some time in the Diesel shop.

There's a microbrewery that opened up here in Galesburg a few years ago, and tonight as I was driving around town, I looked through the windows of their dining room and noticed they have a vintage bus sitting inside building. I couldn't get a clear look at all of it, but it looks like a 1950s GM product. It appears to have been painted almost completely white, but the chrome trim has been left intact. I don't know if this is a bus that originally worked in Galesburg or if it worked else where, but I have never seen it before tonight (1-27-24).

Matt, from a bit of online searching, it appears that bus in the microbrewery started out as Peoria City Lines 342, a 1946 GMC. It looks like it was heavily modified and quite incomplete even before the brewery got it, and it has subsequently been hacked up even more, so I’d say there’s not much of the original bus left.
