This is a train order for the 409 dated 1951. Chuck Amstein recently acquired it and sent me this scan. Thanks, Chuck!

Randy, I am having trouble clicking on your thumbnail pics in the blog entries. No enlargement of the pic. I think you said you were using a different software for entries (Chrome?) and thought you said the problem had been corrected. My browser is Firefox if that makes a difference.
Your posts of a week ago work fine on this feature.

You're right. I'll have to keep looking into this. Anyhow, it's been fixed.
A single car, running as an extra on a Monday afternoon at 3:00PM
Can only wonder what that might have been all about. Shift change at the watch factory perhaps ?

Could it be that the car was just outshopped and being taken for a road test?

The thing I wondered about is that the order is issued to the 409 at Chicago to run extra from Wheaton to Elgin and return, but there's nothing about getting from Chicago to Wheaton.
I guess we'll never know. Don't lose any sleep over it!
I missed the fact the order was issued at Chicago. So I guess the 409 was the first car(?) of a scheduled train from Chicago to Wheaton (so did not need train orders to operate as far as Wheaton), which on this particular day was being extended to Elgin for some reason by train order and then deaheading back to Wheaton
