Don't Fence Me In

Frank and I happen to know someone who has an interesting view from his rear balcony:

This isn't IRM, of course.  And we will never have high-rise apartments looking down onto our depot, or our shop buildings, or the Main Street scene.  But that's only because of the generosity of past donors, who made sure we had the resources to buy up buffer parcels around our main campus.  And there are still some plots of land we want to purchase when the opportunity arises.

So as the end of the year approaches, remember that this is only one of the many valuable and even vital restricted funds that your Museum has set up, and which we need to continue to develop and further our mission.  Please give generously!

so where were the two scene taken?

It can be no secret, I suppose, that these were taken in South Elgin, overlooking the Fox River Trolley Museum.

the scenes looked familiar but not at those angles

Amazing views. They may not get million dollar donations from Boeing, The Grainger Foundation, and the Pritzker family like most museums publish in their annual report. But I have to admit, the Fox River Trolley Museum has been pretty successful all those years. They have assembled a very focused collection and run a manageable operation that fits well within its environment.

Oh. Well, uh, if you think so, but we're sorting of getting off the subject here -- that wasn't really the message I was trying to convey, heh heh.

The volunteers there sure do keep busy working to keep those cars from rotting away

No offense intended to your point ( thats well taken) but that is a great view that reminds me of the view I had from the EL station in Scranton, looking down on passing excursions. Maybe build a retirement community for old folks like me with a view of the IRM mainline..if so.. sign me up with a deposit!..

I hope you won't take this personally, Bruce, but a retirement community with a view of the IRM mainline is exactly what we do _not_ want, I'm pretty sure. That's why we're trying to buy as much buffer land as possible. So.... your deposit to the buffer fund will be appreciated, you can count on that.

Anyway, I wanted to get around to the subject of indoor storage. Notice the snow pack on the roof of the 458, and the other cars. That's not good, of course. Now Barn 14 is in the development process, but it's already more than signed up, and we could use yet another carbarn. We haven't beating that drum much lately, but we should probably start again. Maybe next year.

Randall,

How far along is barn 14? Any chance of getting two barns built at the same time?
