The Wolfersheim Report

PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY 7 AND OTHER PROJECTS

Gregg Wolfersheim sends us another update on his various projects:

The last couple of weeks I've had a little time to get back in the doodlebug. Some paint scraping on the partition wall is in progress. It's a slow job, however.

A few weeks ago, the steam department moved the 0-6-0 into barn 3. It's at the head of the freight train. I've been putting the windows back in, and hope to make the cab interior more appealing. Several parts are missing in the cab, as well as outside. This was the museum's first steam locomotive donated in 1961 and was the reason for the organization's name change.

The X4 has had its headlight missing for years. I recently located one and refurbished it. A little paint touch up was done, also.

The rearward side window was broken for many years, with a wood panel behind it to keep the critters out. I removed what was left of it, made a new bottom rail and one stile.  A coat of paint and then it was put back in place. I ran the X4 in the late '70's and moved rail from on the property to the west end. That rail replaced the small, broken junk that the museum laid in 1965 when it moved to Union from North Chicago. The car hasn't run much since then because of its street railway narrow tread wheels.
