Another great progress report on our Illinois Terminal line car from Gregg Wolfersheim:
While waiting for the roofing material to arrive, the roof saddles have been getting prepared with paint. These will go on top of the canvas roof to support the deck on the linecar.
Some of the sheet metal protectors that go around the posts that lift the platform have received attention, too. Mainly straightening them out and priming. The larger one is inverted and actually surrounds the other one when the platform is all the way down for travel and storage. I suspect it kept most of the rain from entering the car when it was on the IT.
This past Friday the tongue and groove roof material arrived. The first 10 pieces were primed and painted on the down side. Easier to paint it this way rather than looking up in the car and trying to paint it as the ceiling!
On Sunday the first pieces were installed.
Another view of the carlines with the lift posts coming through the roofing.
