Metra Service to Rockford

A friend sends us a link to the announcement of planned Metra service from Chicago to Rockford along the UP line through Union:  https://www.rrstar.com/story/news/2023/07/06/metra-chosen-to-restore-passenger-rail-to-rockford/70386574007/

Now of course I am not an officer of the Museum and can speak only for myself, and any opinions are entirely my own, but perhaps a few observations are in order:

1) It is obviously in the Museum's interest not to lose connection with the general system, and any activity in the direction of continued service on the Belvidere sub is good news.

2) Of course, nothing may come of this proposal, or work may start and never be finished, you never know.

3) There will be stops in Belvidere, Huntley, and Elgin according to the proposal.  The proposed service seems focused on through travel from Chicagoland to Rockford, not intermediate communities.  A station in or near Union seems unlikely.

4) And of course we can all speculate on how likely any given outcome will be...

Anyway, I thought you'd like to know.

And for the first time, I'm turning off comments.  I don't want to deal with irrelevant diatribes about particular politicians, parties, issues, etc.  That's what RyPN is for.
