Our intrepid reporter Zach Ehlers sent in some photos taken on Labor Day itself. The train scheduled to run was the 409 and 431, but an issue with the latter car (later traced to a spring failure in the governor) meant a different train had to be used. Wood cars to the rescue!
So the 309 and 319 were in service on Monday without any major issues. They are now available to operate just about any weekend day that the weather is nice, so for anyone signed up to operate the steel train and qualified on these cars, just drop us a line and let us know if you'd like to run them any of the upcoming weekends.
Besides the CA&E cars and the Shay, the other train in operation on Monday was the four-car train of spam cans seen below. These are the four cars in matching livery: two singles, 22 and 41, plus 6655-6656.
And something seems different with the below photo but I can't put my finger on it...

I remember in the early years when there was no way to turn anything around on the railroad, since we were wye-less. The result? Only one side of a car painted, doors functional on only the south side of cars - you get the picture. Thankfully, we've come a long way.
