Roof Progress

Today we'll start with news you can see from Olson Road.  The contractors, in spite of the weather, are busily putting up the beams for the roof on the North Western building.  We're hoping that most of the construction work that requires heavy vehicles can get finished before the roads are posted.

Meanwhile, inside the barn I continued to make progress on the #1 end of the 714.  I had wanted to install the drip rails, but it was too cold for caulking, so that got put off.

I was able to install some more slats after modifying the saddles somewhat.

In this picture, the lower two slats are only temporarily installed.  We need to decide exactly how they should be spaced, so I'll be getting some second opinions.  Tim and I agreed that it's hard to say.

But the upper slats are more evenly spaced, and are going well.  Still, in a structure in which there are no parallel lines, precision is an elusive goal.

From this point, all the work has to be done from the top of the roof.

The other guys were doing their usual thing.  Tim was refinishing doors for the 1808:

And John was producing molding strips for all the windows on the 306.
