As you may have read, the Car Dept. is planning to resume work on our IT line car, 1702. Gregg Wolfersheim sends along a couple of pictures of some restoration he did on this car a few years ago:
Here's
what 1702 looked like in July of 2017 on the #2 end.
Here it is in August of that year after I rebuilt the windows and refinished the door. New siding was installed, along with the catcher bracket. The door on the #1 end was rebuilt the year before. Currently a door post is being replaced.

What condition are the traction motors in? They are GE73’s, the same motors as the 604 has, I would guess that it needs a roof job, I am sure that the canvas is shot under the decking. The platform is manually raised and lowered using a Coffing Hoist. I would guess that the platform will need to be rebuilt, that should bot be too bad of a job since it is not as large as what the 604 has. Anyway it is good to see the 1702 is getting some love and attention.

It'll be lovely to see this finished. It could make photo sessions with the other IT cars and the B-Motor interesting.
Just out of curiosity, how many of the South Shore "Insull" cars in the collection are still functional?
