Our regular weekday Car Dept. projects are continuing after the holidays. As usual, this is just a sample of what was being accomplished.
Pete and Fritz are working on doors for the 757, which is scheduled to run for North Shore Day.
Here Fritz is checking the operation of one of the locks:
And using his router to let in the wood for the metal plate:
Pete was painting doors and windows. This green color is an exact match to the Silverliner standard, as Pete explained in detail. The car itself will eventually be getting a complete new Silverliner paint scheme.
I painted the last two running boards for the 460:
I also attached some more parts to the roof, and stripped and painted several more parts. These are the horn guard and baffle for the #2 end.
Tim spent all day on the 1808 window project.
And John was working on the 306 interior. It's coming along nicely.
Felt strips being attached to the window tracks:
The car is going to look as good as new.
After yesterday's report, you may wonder how we weekday guys manage to get along without Nick's pearls of wisdom being dropped everywhere. The answer: it's not easy, but we do the best we can!

The green Pete is using for the platforms of 757 should look very familiar; it's actually Electroliner Turquoise. As Pete notes, that was the railroad specification for Silverliner platforms. Before that, the North Shore was using the light green from the two tone green paint scheme (such as on 160). Traces of the light green can still be seen in 251's platforms.

Thanks. Pete explained all this to me, actually, but I was afraid I wouldn't get it correct without writing it down. That's why we have resident experts on all of these arcane subjects.
