Friday was a relatively calm time at the Museum, but there's always something going on. Here are some very brief notes on a few of the current projects.
I made new siding pieces for the Jewell Road shelter, as seen here.
Tim continues to paint the interior of the 1808.
It looks great.
By now you should be able to guess which car this goes to, and who is making it:
The Track Department are always busy, and here they are doing tie replacement on the main line.
You should be able to see the tie crane in the distance.
Not all track work takes place outside, however. Track 34 has mysteriously vanished:
But its replacement is a high priority.

Viewing platforms like that should be in more car barns at other museums! I believe IRM was the first to provide such an ADA feature. And maybe one can go into Car Barn 15 when it is built. TM IRM Long time IRM Member
Interesting. Where is the B&M cafe-coach residing during this change? That car does not have a good roof.

The B&M cafe car is still on track 32. It has lived there for at least 5 years. Exhibit equipment on track 34 was the CGW snowplow, IC 9792, ATSF stock car, FGEX Reefer, RI Auto boxcar, and Public Service 7. With the MILW inspection dodge occasionally making appearances. The two Rock Island suburban cars were pulled out of 32 and the freight cars were stored in their stead until track work is completed.
