Happy Holidays!

On Sunday I got to spend a day with large crowds of visitors enjoying our annual Happy Holidays Railway extravaganza.  Not many pictures; for good photographs of the action you'll have to look elsewhere.  But the main point is that there are a large number of volunteers who put in a great deal of time, effort, and expertise to make this all possible.  Several of them I hadn't met before.  And the result is a big boost to the Museum, both in terms of public exposure, and revenue.  A large majority of our visitors seemed to be having a great time, and we got a lot of very positive comments.

Santa Claus is coming to town.

Here the North Western F unit is on its way to hook onto the train.

You have to see the light show inside the cars for yourself.  It's unbelievable.

The property after dark is completely transformed.  I'm no expert at night photography; as always you have to be there in person.

And again, our heartfelt thanks to all those who make this possible each year.

So I started wondering what other popular holidays we could try to exploit.  We already have activities centered around Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, etc.  Valentines Day might offer some intriguing possibilities, but it's at the worst possible time of year for weather around here.  How about National Pancake Day?  Sounds good to me!

Well there's no shortage of National days that you can exploit. Every day in the United States seems to be a National "Something" Day, and if you think something as plain as a Cheese pizza wouldn't have a National Day dedicated to it, then you are sorely mistaken (I wish I was joking; yes, there is a National Cheese Pizza Day).

National prairie day is the first Saturday of June. At one time some prairie restoration occurred along the mainline and could be found at the east end on county property
