Thanks to Richard Schauer for forwarding along the latest update on the CTA trolley bus we have out at a contract shop for repainting:
Not a lot completed this week, but some news nonetheless. Attached is a picture of the front upper curb side corner, all done. This took some work, but no new metal.
I met with the shop owner again to discuss the ending stages of the work. He asked how far they should go on various small trouble spots that would fall into the diminishing returns category pretty quick. In general, I told him to make it look reasonably good without a ton of time invested, which was his plan anyway. For example, one of the spots was just in front of the back doors, where there's a corner where the side sheets end and a narrow transverse piece starts the door opening. It's an area that took some abuse and the metal edges are somewhat bent and splayed open here and there down the height of the door. A lot of work could be invested in that corner with little return. I told him to pound the metal back to meeting at a right angle, use a little mud if necessary to make it smooth, and that's it. It will look good and function properly when painted, and I think that's the right use of funds here.
