IT Line Car Update

Another timely report from Gregg Wolfersheim:

The frame renewal is coming along on the line car. The second beam was fitted to the first one, and the end of the car. There are several long rods that reach into the center sill and are threaded on the ends. Four of them came all the way out. The others stayed with the washers and nuts just removed. In this post we see two of the 30 inch rods starting their way back in.

Once the beams were in place and tightened up, all of the upright posts were attended to. Since only the bottom was bad, I spliced new pieces in place. Along one edge is a groove so the vertical rods have room to fit. Lots of fun getting the pieces in around the rod and up against the diagonal  braces!

Another view from the No. 1 end. The vertical post at the left had to be replaced all the way up. It also serves as the frame for the drop sash next to the motorman's  position. A horizontal piece still needs to be added right below the window opening.
