We Have the Fright-Of-Way

Lots of activity today, as usual. I even helped Frank a little on the 205. For the 319, I painted several windows with a first coat of the finish "butterscotch" color, as seen here. And Bill Wulfert found a supply of the correct spring latches, so we'll be all set there. Thanks, Bill!!!

We tested the brakes some more. Last week I had noticed a fairly strong leak from the exhaust port of the triple valve, especially in release, but it was much less today. Go figure. In any case I plan to test the valve; Rich pointed out where the instructions to the brake test stand are kept. And we then took the car out from some brief testing, with Dick Lukin as motorman.

Among other things, the B&G department were working most of the day on digging holes for the concrete posts to support the huge EMD sign that will be erected alongside the connector track.

Here's some of the "scenery" the sign will conceal.

And out on the south 40, here's some better fall scenery. It looks like many leaves will be falling before they turn.

Terror on the Railroad

Finally, in the evening I signed up as a trainman on the Screamliner. Things are a little different this year; there's no electric car running. The stationary train is parked on the west wye, and the silver train runs out of station track 2 as usual. We had a pretty good crowd for the first weekend, and everything seemed to go well. It takes a lot of effort by a large number of different people to make this event happen. And we can always use more volunteers to help with setup and with crowd control. Come on out -- it's a scream!

I wore a mask so as not to frighten the passengers with my usual appearance.
